Job Description Position Type : Full time Reports to : HR Manager Level of Supervision : None Employment Classification : May either be Exempt or Non-Exempt (Full-time) Location: 13606 Gun Club Rd., Wasco, CA. 93280 Job Brief: We are looking for candidates with exceptional interpersonal skills for the position of employee relations specialist. Employee Relations Specialists perform a variety of duties to promote employee welfare, such as resolving human relations problems and promoting employee health and well-being. They interview workers and discuss personnel, human relations, and work-related problems that adversely affect morale, health, and productivity. This person also evaluates and resolves human relations, labor relations, and work-related problems, and meets with management to determine appropriate action. An Employee Relations Specialist explains and provides advice to workers about the company and governmental rules, regulations, procedures, and need for compliance. DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Employee Relations Specialist will assist with labor relations and human resources matters, gathering, collecting, and analyzing employee data, monitoring, evaluating, and documenting employee new hire job training, collecting, and maintaining documents and records required for contract and policy development, investigations, and negotiations, among other duties. Essential job duties include but are not limited to the following: -- Perform a variety of duties to promote employee welfare, such as resolving human relations problems and promoting employee health and well-being. -- Interview workers and discuss personnel, human relations, and work-related problems that adversely affect morale, health, and productivity. -- Evaluates and resolve human relations, labor relations, and work-related problems, and meet with management to advise and determine appropriate action. -- Explain and provide advice to workers about the company and governmental rules, regulations, and procedures, and the need for compliance. -- Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints. -- Conducts initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns; informs HR Manager when an additional investigation is required. -- Assist in the development and implementation of policies, programs, and procedures related to Employee Relations. -- Assists in advising and training managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances. Develops further training as needed. -- Assists in the development, scheduling, and conducting of technical, management, and interpersonal skills training to improve department managers, supervisors, and employee performance. -- Assists with recordkeeping related to hiring, termination, leave, transfer, and promotion. -- Conducts surveys, interviews, and other research related to human resource policies, compensation, benefits, working conditions, and other mitigating circumstances; After analyzing the information, reports results and makes recommendations on changes to the Human Resources Manager. -- Assist with the communication of policies pertaining to Human Resources, compensation, and benefits to employees. -- Prepares newsletter and other reports to communicate information about employee concerns and comments and organizational actions taken. -- Explains company compensation and benefits programs, such as medical, insurance, retirement, and savings plans, and enrolls workers in specified programs. -- Prepares reports and enters and updates medical, insurance, retirement, and other personnel forms and records, using a computer. -- Audits benefit accounts and examines records to ensure compliance with standards and regulations. -- Counsel employees regarding work, family, or personal problems. -- Representing the company at job fairs and college campuses. -- Participate in recruitment and termination processes, inclusive of conducting and documenting exit interviews of all employees and temporary employees. -- Provide feedback to HR and departmental management regarding trends revealed in exit interviews. -- As needed, attend conferences and meetings, as an employee-management liaison, to facilitate communication between parties. -- Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and human resources. -- Assists with preparation of plans, policies, documents, and reports including EEO-1, organizational charts, labor agreements, and employee handbooks. -- Assists in developing, managing, and facilitating employee engagement opportunities that align with organizational objectives. -- Coordinate employee events like Christmas Party, Company Picnic, and other related activities. -- Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.) -- Bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and spoken. -- Excellent oral and written communication skills. -- Thorough knowledge and understanding of state and federal laws concerning labor relations and employment law. -- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies. -- Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations. -- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. -- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines. -- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. -- Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR and contract negotiations. -- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. -- Experience in the agriculture industry preferred, not required. -- Requires experience in presenting training materials in a group setting. -- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills to effectively train, motivate, and communicate with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, and customers. -- Valid driver---s license and good driving history. -- Ability to multitask, prioritize job duties, and work in a fast-paced, hectic environment. -- Satisfactory criminal background check. Education and Experience: -- Bachelor---s degree in Employee Relations, Human Resources, or related field required. -- Two to four years of professional human resource administration, including one year in employee relations preferred OR it's equivalent through training, education, and other experience. -- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be medically evaluated and cleared to wear the appropriate respiratory equipment, if needed.
