Contract Registered Nurse (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU) Location: Bakersfield Job Summary The Registered Nurse (RN)
in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized
nursing care to critically ill or premature newborns. The RN
monitors neonatal patients, administers treatments, collaborates
with neonatologists and multidisciplinary teams, and supports
families during the neonatal care process. Key Responsibilities -
Provide direct nursing care to premature and critically ill
neonates in the NICU. - Monitor and assess vital signs, oxygen
levels, and overall neonatal condition. - Administer medications,
IV fluids, and specialized neonatal treatments as prescribed. -
Operate and monitor NICU equipment including ventilators,
incubators, and cardiac monitors. - Assist with neonatal procedures
and emergency interventions when needed. - Collaborate with
neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, and other
healthcare professionals. - Maintain accurate patient documentation
in the electronic medical record (EMR). - Educate and support
parents and families on infant care and NICU processes. - Follow
infection control, patient safety, and hospital policies. -
Participate in care planning and discharge planning for neonates.
Qualifications - Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in
California. - Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of
Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. - Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification required. - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
certification required. - 1–2 years NICU experience preferred (new
graduates may be considered in residency programs). Skills &
Competencies - Strong neonatal assessment and critical care skills
- Ability to respond quickly to neonatal emergencies - Excellent
communication with families and healthcare teams - Knowledge of
NICU protocols and neonatal equipment Work Environment -
Hospital-based Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) - May include
12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays - Requires standing
for long periods and responding to urgent patient needs About
