Job Title: Surgical Tech Profession: Surgical Tech Specialty: OR Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8H Days Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: 2 years License: Yes Certifications: BLS, CST Must-Have: 2 years of OR experience Description: Unit has 7 OR suites. The unit handles 15-20 cases per day. Technicians and Registered Nurses (RNs) must have BLS certification. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used is Cerner Surginet. A charge nurse is available but not 24/7. Weekend call requirement for RNs is one weekend per month. Weekend call requirement for Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) is also one weekend per month. On-call response time is 30 minutes. Holiday work is only required in emergencies. Scrub color is provided by the unit. Television equipment used is Philips. Surgeons are on call 24/7. There is no IV team available. RT is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are not available 24/7; after hours, alternate support is provided. Shifts are 8 hours with variable start times; scheduling is managed by the unit manager. Floating is not required. Floor-specific orientation depends on the individual’s skill set. Common types of cases include a high volume of orthopedic procedures, such as total joints, as well as general surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, and ophthalmology. Travelers will not be assigned to cardiac cases, which include open heart surgeries, carotid endarterectomies, and TAVRs. Scrubbing is required for all surgical technicians. Scrubbing is preferred but not mandatory for RNs. Two years of OR experience is required. Travel experience is preferred. Sterile processing technicians must have BLS certification and be certified through IAHCSMM. Equipment used includes autoclaves, Steris, and V-pro. The facility can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment and up to 3 shifts for shorter assignments. Charting system in use is Cerner. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is not required. Trauma level and care setting is acute. Division is Allied Health. Shifts are for 8-hour varied days. Required certifications include BLS and CST.
