Job Title: Surgical Tech Profession: Surgical Tech Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8 Hours Hours per Shift: 40 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, CST Must-Have: GI experience Description: Looking for candidates with GI experience on their resume. The unit has 7 OR suites. Approximately 15-20 cases are performed each day. Techs and RN's must have BLS certification. The charting system used is Cerner Surginet. Charge nurses are present, but not 24/7. There are RN's and OR techs on staff. One weekend of call per month is required for both RN's and CST's. There is a call requirement of 1 night per week for both RN's and CST's. Response time for call is 30 minutes. Holidays will only require work in emergencies. Scrub colors are provided. Telecommunication systems used include Phillips. Surgeons are available on call 24/7. An IV team is not present. RT is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are not available 24/7; after hours care is provided by a designated service. Shifts are 8 hours with variable start times as scheduled by the manager. There is no floating between units. Orientation on the floor is dependent on skillset. Common types of cases include high volumes of orthopedic surgeries, general surgeries, gynecological surgeries, pediatric surgeries, and eye surgeries. Experience is not needed for eye surgeries, but cardiac cases, such as open heart surgeries and carotid endarterectomies, are performed, although travelers will not be assigned to these cases. Scrubbing is required for all surgical techs. Scrubbing is preferred for RN's. A minimum of 2 years of OR experience is required, and travel experience is preferred. Sterile processing techs must have BLS and certification through a recognized body. Equipment used includes autoclaves, Steris, and V-pro systems. The cancellation policy allows for the hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment and 3 shifts for shorter assignments. Trauma level and care settings fall within acute divisions, and the focus is on allied healthcare.
